what does “for a limited time” mean in the context of the kobo ereader price?
I’ve read that the price for the kobo ereader is to be $150 for a limited time. What does that mean in this situation? Is the price going to rise or fall? Also, are there going to be other cheap, barebones EReaders later from the hundreds of companies at CTIA this year who had ebook readers or should I jump at this one?
“For a limited time” means just that, the price is only good for until a certain date. It’s frequently an introductory price or perhaps for the grand opening of a store, any excuse for a price cut. After the date specified the price goes up to the regular price.

Latest Outlook $8.78 The Stryker-Slagle Band, a pianoless quartet co-led by guitarist Dave Stryker and altoist Steve Slagle, features top-notch musicianship, logical yet unpredictable solos, close communication between the four players (who include bassist Jay Anderson and drummer Billy Hart) and an appealing group sound. What makes Latest Outlook and the band in general something special is the high quality of the original compositions. Each song has its own personality and surprises, often being episodic. The post-bop music, which welcomes guest tenor-saxophonist Joe Lovano to “Bird Flew” (based on Charlie Parker’s “Confirmation”) and a tribute to the late pianist John Hicks called “Dear Mr. Hicks,” is consistently colorful. Whether it be an eccentric reworking of “Just in Time” as “In Just Time,” or such songs as “Knew Hold” and “Turning Point,” there are no slow moments throughout this studio set. Several of the numbers deserve to become standards in the future. Latest Outlook is a fine example of early 21st century jazz. Highly recommended. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi Performers: Billy Hart – Drums; Dave Stryker – Guitar; Jay Anderson – Bass; Joe Lovano – Sax (Tenor); Steve Slagle – Sax (Alto), Sax (Soprano) |

The Latest Fashion $7.62 While it’s easy to confuse Attack! Attack! with Ohio’s Attack Attack! (notice the difference in exclamation points), the U.K. act has very little in common with the heavy screamo act from the States. The specialty of the Cardiff-based band is glossy emo-pop and friendly, grunge-influenced alt-rock. Jimmy Eat World and Foo Fighters are similar buzz bands, and Attack! Attack!’s music is similarly apt for a festival or big arena stage. Latest Fashion focuses on building dynamic songs for mega venues and leans toward a more anthemic sound, with producer Romesh Dodangoda (Funeral for a Friend, Kids in Glass Houses) adding some sonic weight. The fact that this album’s cover resembles Electric Light Orchestra’s Out of the Blue is telling, since, like a Jeff Lynne production, the recording sounds as thickly layered as possible. This new degree of sheen leaves Attack! Attack! sounding like a completely different band than they did on their debut. Still, they maintain a degree of muscle on rockers “No Excuses,” “Seen Me Lately,” and “Latest Fashion.” Meanwhile, on the flip side, the power ballad “Best Mistake” finds the band setting its sights on a radio single. The crossover material leaves the album sounding a little stiff, and “No Tomorrow” seems manufactured to the point of feeling artificial, but if Attack! Attack! were aiming for commercially viable pop-punk, they hit the nail on the head with this one. ~ Jason Lymangrover, Rovi Performers: Romesh Dodangoda – Keyboards, Percussion, Piano; Sean Smith – Vocals; The Guns – Vocals |

Latest and Greatest $12.78 At the beginning of the opening number “Dippermouth Blues,” Max Collie’s Rhythm Aces sound so ragged that one wonders if this is going to be an overly primitive set of Dixieland. But the band quickly becomes more coherent without losing its spirit. The packaging, which lists most of the songs as “traditional” without giving its composers and has “Weary Blues” listed as “Traveling Blues,” could be better but the music is highly enjoyable. Cornetist Phil Mason and trombonist-leader Max Collie deserve to be better known. “My Man” (a blues, not the well-known standard) has good-time singing by Pauline Pearce and Marilyn Middleton Pollock. Pearce also pops up on a couple other vintage pieces. But the main reason to get this set is for the exciting ensembles. The Max Collie band, one of the top British trad groups since its formation in 1966, should be known by all Dixieland followers. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi |

Latest Edition $13.59 Digitally remastered reissue of this album from the British Blues icon. The title makes a virtue of necessity, as John Mayall introduces another new line-up Two guitarists, High Tide Harris and Randy Resnick, lead the band in more of an up-tempo R&B style than has been used in much of Mayall’s music during the past several years, starting with the timely ‘Gasoline Blues’ (1974 was the year of the gas lines, remember?) and going on to ‘Troubled Times’ (which advises impeaching President Nixon). For the first time on CD this sought after John Mayall album is available, endorsed a by John himself, and he has contributed a new interview for the notes. Lemon. 2009. Performers: Hi Tide Harris – Guitar; John Mayall – Vibraphone, Harmonica, Organ, Guitar, Piano, Keyboards, Vocals, Guitar (12 String); Larry Taylor – Bass; Randy Resnick – Guitar; Red Holloway – Flute, Saxophone; Soko Richardson – Percussion, Drums |

Latest Greatest Straitest Hits $11.14 With a career that spans nearly 20 years, 26 albums that have been certified platinum or multi-platinum, and countless number-one and Top-Ten hits, it’s probably easy for George Strait to gather some songs for a greatest-hits album. The cream of the crop turn up here, drawn from his four most recent studio albums. “Carrying Your Love With Me,” “Adalida,” “Blue Clear Sky,” and “Today My World Slipped Away” are just a few of the celebrated songs that grace this prodigious 15-song anthology. But no country artist’s greatest-hits album is complete without the obligatory addition of at least two new songs, and Strait fulfills this obligation with a slightly appealing duet with fellow country artist Alan Jackson, crooning about “Murder on Music Row,” and “The Best Day,” which has filled the airwaves of country radio. It takes only one listen to Latest Greatest Straitest Hits to remind listerners that George Strait continues to hit them out of the park and will go down in history as one of the top country entertainers of all time. ~ Maria Konicki Dinoia, Rovi Performers: Alan Jackson – Vocals (Background); Lee Ann Womack – Vocals (Background); Liana Manis – Vocals (Background); Stuart Duncan – Mandolin, Fiddle; Wes Hightower – Vocals (Background); Brent Mason – Guitar (Electric); Eddie Bayers – Drums; George Strait – Vocals (Background), Vocals; Glenn Worf – Guitar (Bass); |
