eBooks have revolutionized the way of learning. Enthusiastic people have assured the availability of almost every kind of reading material online. Initially eBooks were available in MS Word format, text document format, and in pdf format. Over the years, many applications have been introduced that make reading an ebook a fun and interesting experience online.

eBooks have also made their way to the hand-held devices and Tablets. Now the avid readers need not depend on the PC, laptops or Mac to access and enjoy these books.

iBooks and Kindle Applications

Let’s take a look at some of the compelling clients for eBooks currently available on The Ipad.

iBooks

On the launch day of the iPad, both Apple’s e-reader iBooks and Amazon’s Kindle for the iPad were ready for download and use. Currently the books for the iBooks client can only be read on the iPad and with ebook reader adoption still being quite low, the iPad may actually encourage ebook reading like the iPhone did with mobile applications and web surfing on the go. iPad Forums and iPad Forum is a highly effective question and answer site focused on facilitating accurate, complete, and timely answers to your iPad related questions.

Apple’s client is visually perfect in an ebook reader as they have modeled the physical book experience with a wooden bookshelf background. The physical page dimensions shown on the edges, gives the reader a sense of depth. The opened books have a two page real book-looking layout displayed in landscape mode with a shadowed center spine area. The page-turning animations enhance the real effect of a book. After the launch of iBooks in landscape mode, it will seem to the reader that he is reading an ebook; while other ebook applications still appear as if one is reading a document or web page.

Amazon Kindle application

Amazon’s large-screen Kindle DX along with Apple iPad has dominated the high-end e-book reader market. The Kindle DX costs are slightly lower than the iPad, yet, both of these devices are considerably more expensive than the other readers in markets like Entourage Edge and the Alex eReader. iPad is more of a Netbook or laptop competitor than it is strictly an e-book reader competitor. However, iPad offers a variety of step-up features via tens of thousands of downloadable apps. The Amazon Kindle application for the iPad also appeared on launch day of iPad. The users of Kindle can simply log into their account and download selected books right to their iPad.

When you launch the Amazon Kindle application, you will be given the option to login or create an account. If you have an existing account you can tap the word showing in the lower left and it gives you the option to view Archived Items. It will bring up your library backed up on Amazon servers. These books can be easily downloaded to your iPad to appear on the Home page. You can view your ebooks with cover pages or via small thumbnails and details. You can sort them by recent, title, and author as well. There are refresh and info button available as well. The iPad application is pretty good, but the Kindle Store is not integrated into the application. Tapping on the Kindle Store takes you to the Safari web browser as there is no in-client store front. After you make a purchase though your ebook appears almost instantly in your library.

Each of these have their strengths people having a wide-ranging ebook collection would like to have these applications in their iPad for varied reading experiences.
